PD. Dr. Stefan Niemann
Stefan Niemann has studied Biology at the University of Bielefeld (Germany) were he obtained his diploma in 1992. From 1992-1996 he performed his PhD work in the department of Genetics at the University of Bielefeld. Since 1996 he worked as a senior scientist at the National Reference Laboratory for Mycobacteria (NRL), Research Center Borstel (Germany). In 2004 he gained his habilitation in Molecular Genetics and Microbiology, and became Assistant Professor (Privatdozent) at the University of Lübeck. Since 2006 he is head of the Molecular Mycobacteriology Group, NRL, Research Center Borstel.
He is a specialist in molecular characterization of clinical Mycobacterium tuberculosis complex (MTBC) isolates. Special research interests comprise the epidemiology of TB, the population structure of the MTBC in correlation with pathogenic properties and mechanisms of host-pathogen interaction.

Dr. Thomas Weniger
Thomas Weniger obtained his diploma in computer science in 2004 from the University of Würzburg, Germany. There he worked on alignment and clustering algorithms and developed the Based Upon Repeat Patterns (BURP) clustering method. From 2005 he works for the Department of Periodontology, University of Münster (Germany) where he focuses on visualization methods and on the development of internet applications. Since November 2011 he is working for Ridom GmbH in Münster (Germany) on the development of software for next-generation sequencing.

Prof. Dr. Dag Harmsen
Dag Harmsen is a M.D. specialized in microbiology and the epidemiology of infectious diseases. He commenced his training in 1991 at the Institute of Hygiene and Microbiology, University of Würzburg (Germany). From September 2000 to January 2002 he headed the Research and Development Diagnostics division of CREATOGEN AG (Augsburg, Germany). From February 2002 to September 2004 he has been senior research scientist at the Institute of Hygiene University of Münster (Germany). From June 2005 until July 2008 he was temporary head of the Department of Periodontology, Univ. Münster. He is now head of research of this department. His scientific interests focus on molecular diagnostics, epidemiology and the phylogeny of micro-organisms. Furthermore, he is specialized in applied bioinformatics in microbiology.

Universitätsklinikum Münster, Germany
Dr. Philip Supply
Philip Supply has studied Engineering in Biochemistry at the University of Louvain, Belgium, where he obtained his diploma in 1987. He obtained his PhD in 1994 at the same University, on yeast proton pump enzymology and genetics. Between 1994 and 1996, he performed his post-doctoral training on the use of BCG as recombinant vaccine and on genetic regulation in pathogenic mycobacteria at the Institut Pasteur de Lille, France. Since then, he works in this Institute with a position of Research Associate of the French National Center for Scientific Research (CNRS) obtained in 1996. He obtained his habilitation to direct research in 2003. His research interest focuses on the molecular evolution and population structure of tubercle bacilli, and their implications for the epidemiology and history of tuberculosis.
